Description

  • Adriaen Cornelisz. Beeldemaker
  • a mountainous landscape with hounds assaulting a hare;a hilly landscape with hounds resting near a stream
  • a pair, both signed and dated lower right, the former: AB (in ligature) eelde maker / 170., the latter: AB (in ligature) eelde maker / 1700
  • both oil on canvas

Provenance

In the family of the present owner since the 1960s.

Condition

Both paintings are darker in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. Both canvases are relined and the paint surface is somewhat flattened and abrasion is visible throughout. Otherwise the paint surfaces are in good condition, no damages are visible to the naked eye. A few small discoloured retouchings can be observed in the skies. The paint layers are under a fine and dense cracquelure pattern and an old and discoloured varnish layer. Inspection under UV-light is impeded by the thick varnish layer. Offered in a later plain wood frame, both are damaged along the lower edge and need to be repaired. (JD)
