Description

  • Andy Warhol
  • Mao (F & S II.97)
  • Sheet: 913 by 914 mm; 36 by 36in
Screenprint in colours, 1972, signed in ball-point pen on the verso and inscribed A.P. 13/50, an artist's proof aside from the numbered edition of 250, published by Castelli Graphics and Multiples, Inc., on Beckett High White paper, the full sheet printed to the edges, in good condition apart from a few hairline cracks in the ink at the upper and lower sheet edges and above the figure's mouth, faint damp staining along the left sheet edge, with associated minor cockling, the verso with mount-staining

Condition

The print is in good condition as catalogued. The hairline cracks are most likely do to the sheet having been rolled (slight rolling creases are visible.) These appear above the figure's lip and in two spots at the upper sheet edge and occasionally at the lower sheet edge. All are shorter than 3 inches and most visible under raking light. Damp stain at left is most visible on the verso, showing through slightly to the recto, and the sheet is slightly cockled as a result. Mount-stain on the verso is inconsistent (there is a light horizontal bar which is not stained 3/4 of the way down the sheet)
