Roy Lichtenstein

Multiple sculpture, cake, with yellow and black varnish, in the shape of a brushstroke, mounted to painted wood, 1965-71, signed in pencil and numbered 72/100 on a certificate which accompanies the work, published by Edition eat-art in Düsseldorf, 1970, in apparently good condition, not examined out of perspex box, possibly re-varnished  at a later date and possibly with a small section missing in upper right, perspex box with slight damage

Please note that the perspex box is slightly damaged and small corner is missing. After comparing this work with other examples which have sold at auction we have come to the conclusion that this work might have been re-varnished at some date due to its freshness. When comparing with other examples and the image on the certificate it seems that a piece of the brushstroke in the upper right is missing.

Brushstroke was produced in the context of Daniel Spoerri's eat-art exhibitions where examples of this work were shown at his eat-art Galerie in Düsseldorf in 1970. Part of the edition was varnished at a later stage by the publisher to preserve the ginger bread and icing. Due to the material these works are today rare.
