Catalogue Note

See note to lot 218.

The present watercolor corresponds to plate 41 in part 7 (1803) of Les Liliacées.  Now known as Galaxia monadelpha, this plant had been imported into France from the Cape of Good Hope; it grew in the Jardin des Plantes, where it flowered in the springtime and it was there that Redouté drew it.
