Catalogue Note

Dr Biagi Maino in a written communication (March 2002) to the previous owner has confirmed the attribution to Gaetano Gandolfi and suggested that this oil sketch may be a study for the head of Saint Giustina in Gandolfi's altarpiece datable to the 1790s: An Angel and  Saint Giustina,entrusting  the soul of a child to the Madonna and Child Villa Tanari, Oratorio della Beata Vergine della Nativitá e Santa Giustina, Bazzano.1  The painting is above the altar of the oratorio in the villa of the Marquess Tanari in Bazzano.
