Condition
Sold unframed. The upper margin of the sheet has been folded backwards, causing some losses to the watercolour along the fold. There is also a small loss near the upper right corner of the sheet, at the top of the door-frame. The paper has some slight foxing, but overall the condition is fine.

Catalogue Note
After the painting of the same subject by Jacob Ochtervelt of circa 1665-70, in the Mauritshuis, The Hague. This copy provided van Strij with a starting point for his own painting depicting the entrance of a fish-seller into a similar house, now in a private collection, Arlesheim.1
