Firmly laid down. Some surface dirt. Crease to the lower edge, and a tear to the right edge. Paper was presumably once blue.

Catalogue Note

Paolo Girolamo Piola worked with his father Domenico and spent most of his life in Genoa.  He did, however, study in Rome under Maratta from 1690-4, and this drawing shows the influence of that master in the figure types.  He often used blue or gray paper which gives a more dramatic effect to his drawings.
