Catalogue Note

This is a charming example of Federico's portrait drawings.  Drawn from life, with the subject's name at the top, it shows a street musician playing a cittern, which was a precursor of the mandolin, and probably singing.  Such itinerant performers often, like this man, came from the region of Abruzzo, to provide entertainment during the Christmas season and at religious festivals.
