  • Esaias van de Velde
  • a river scene with rowing boats, cottages on the shore and a windmill in the distance
  • Black chalk and grey wash;
    bears inscription in black chalk, lower left, either partial van Goyen monogram: VG, or partially effaced VELDE signature 

Condition

Framed. Edged with japan paper. A very light stain at the lower left, beneath the pair of figures. Otherwise the sheet is clear and the condition appears to be very good indeed.

Catalogue Note

Having examined this drawing at first hand, Dr. George Keyes has kindly confirmed the attribution to Esaias van de Velde, but considers that some of the grey wash is probably by another hand.
