Catalogue Note

The inscription on the verso is helpful in identifying the location of the view.  The drawing is similar to views made in connection with the Abbé de Saint-Non's Voyage pittoresque à Naples et en Sicile, which appeared in five volumes between 1781-1786, but the composition does not appear in that publication.  On stylistic grounds the old attribution to Cassas seems less convincing than one to Châtelet, although both artists were involved in the project.
