Catalogue Note
Reinhold studied in Dresden and Vienna, before working in Paris as an engraver for Baron Vivant Denon from 1809 to 1814. In 1819 he travelled to Italy with fellow landscape-painter Johann Christoph Ehrard. Reinhold based himself in Rome, from where he would travel to the neighbouring campagna and make pencil studies or oil sketches such as the present drawing.
