Catalogue Note
In the catalogue of the Beauchamp sale, the connection of this drawing with Giandomenico's painted modello for The Apotheosis of Jacopo Giustiniani (1784, now Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; fig. 1) is noted: a group of putti are swirling around a pediment and an angel with trumpets flies nearby. Other drawings of this subject were in the Beauchamp sale (lots 52-61). The drawings in the collection were mounted in an album which bore the bookplate of Horace Walpole as well as an inscription possibly in the hand of Francesco Guardi.
