Description
- Joris van Son
- a still life with peaches, pomegranate, grapes, and plums, a nautilus shell, a lit taper, a clay pipe and a compass resting on a ledge in a niche
- oil on canvas
Condition
The relining is quite old but still effective. The paint surface is secure and under a yellowed varnish which impedes satisfactory inspection under UV light though some retouchigns have discoloured and others can be made out in darker areas. The painting would benefit from a surface clean.

Catalogue Note
We are grateful to Fred Meijer for proposing the attribution to van Son. Mr Meijer suggests that the some of the objects in the lower half of the composition, such as the rose lower right, may be by an other hand, possibly Hendrick Andriessen (1607-1655).
