  • The vision of a male saint, possibly Saint Ignatius of Loyola
  • oil on copper

Catalogue Note

The kneeling figure is possibly Saint Ignatius of Loyola (circa 1491-1556), the founder of the Society of Jesus, or Jesuits, whose goal was to re-establish the influence of the Catholic Church. During his journey to Rome in 1537, he had a vision in which Christ ordered him to set up a religious community.
