Catalogue Note

This scene, taken from II Samuel 13-19, portrays the rape of Tamar by her half-brother Amnon, son of king David, who had feigned sickness so that Tamar would come and tend to him. Tamar's brother Absalom, also a son of king David, swore to avenge his sister and later plotted Amnon's murder.
