Circle of Simone Cantarini, called il Pesarese

A 17th-century copy after Cantarini's original listed by Emiliani as in a private collection, Pesaro (see A. Emiliani, S. Cantarini detto il Pesarese 1612-1648, Milan 1997, pp. 112-3, cat. no. I.22, reproduced). The present lot is accompanied by the certificate of Prof. Andrea Emiliani, dated 15th June 2004, attributing this picture to Cantarini, and suggesting that this is a second version of the composition in Pesaro.
