Catalogue Note

This composition records the appearance of a lost painting by Guido Reni, known through an 18th-century engraving by Antonio Ricciani Romano, following a drawing by Agostino Tofanelli after the original painting. A dedication on the engraving records that the painting was formerly in the collection of Cavalier Domenico Venuti, Soprintendente of the Galleria Borbonica in Naples.
