Condition

Lined canvas. The paint surface has very fine creasing throughout. Under UV light: a small repaired tear at upper right quadrant, otherwisem very fine retouching through the canvas, in particular at upper half.

Catalogue Note

A number of paintings by Hendriks can be found in the collection of the Frans Hals Museum, Haarlem.  Two in particular are similar to the present work, depicting interior scenes with figures tending to domestic chores:  Interior with a Thread Winder of circa 1815/20 (inv. no. os 52-33) and Interior with a Sleeping Man and a Woman Darning Socks of circa 1820 (Inv. no. os I-667) [see N. Köhler, ed., Painting in Haarlem 1500-1850, The collection of the Frans Hals Museum, Haarlem 2006, pp. 516-517, cat. nos. 226 and 227, both reproduced.]
