Condition
Very good condition. On a stable joined panel slightly bowed at lower and right corners. The join of the two panels is visible 3 inches from bottom. Under UV: spots of inpainting to upper left and red robed figure's head, thin vertical dash of inpainting in lower left quadrant.

Catalogue Note
According to Gréard's monograph the figure "standing in a red velvet robe, fastened with a silver girdle" is the young Charles Meissonier while "Detaille, a youth, waits near him."
