beginning with the Abbasid Caliphate and continuing with detailed notes on Moorish Spain, North Africa, Egypt, Syria, Mesopotamia, Persia and Transoxiana, and Seljuk, Atabeg, Ortukid, and Mongol dynasties, comprising notes, charts and tables detailing the location of mints, inscriptions, rubbings, and other numismatic details, as well as notes on Islamic dynasties in manuscript and printed cuttings (probably taken from a copy of Lane-Poole's Mohammedan Dynasties, with corrections), with some notes in ink and pencil in a later hand, and a few items loosely inserted including a carbon-copy typescript of an article ('The Head of Medusa'), a tracing of an Egyptian zodiac, and Lane-Poole's obituary from The Times, 246 pages, plus blanks, folio, [c.1900s, ?Dublin], half calf, marbled boards, lacking spine, boards worn, lower cover detached

Catalogue Note
extensive working notes on the coinage of the islamic golden age by a major orientalist and numismatic scholar, with a wealth of detailed information including the location of early Islamic mints including in Baghdad, Mosul, Kerman, Samarkand, Damascus, Oman, and al-Yamama (in modern-day Saudi Arabia). Stanley Lane-Poole (1854-1931) was responsible for the catalogues of Oriental and Indian coins at the British Museum, and of Islamic coins at the Bodleian, as well as writing a number of popular and scholarly historical works. He worked in Egypt for a number of years and was eventually appointed professor of Arabic at Trinity College, Dublin.
