Catalogue Note

rare in this edition. As well as the portrait of Castriot found in most editions, this volume also contains a portrait of Mehmed II.

Skanderbeg (1414–1467), the Albanian chief who fought for the independence of Epirus from Turkey, was admired by Christian and Muslim alike for his heroic qualities. His cognomen "Skanderbeg" is thought to be a corruption of "Alexander the Great".
