Catalogue Note

A finely bound collection of photographs of Constantinople, most, if not all, by Abdullah Frères (Abdullahian), a successful photographic establishment in Constantinople. "In 1862 the firm was appointed court photographers to the Sultans Abdul Aziz and Abdul Hamid II, the latter commissioning the brothers to produce a major documentary photographic project covering the Ottoman Empire. The firm participated in numerous exhibitions, including the Exposition Universelle of 1878 in Paris." (Perez)
