Catalogue Note

Pertusier initially followed a military career with the French army in Dalmatia before becoming attached to the French embassy at the Ottoman Porte. The engravings, which include some highly evocative scenes of Constantinople and environs, are after originals by the Constantinople-based architect Michel-François Préault.
