Catalogue Note

Drawn by J.H. Young and engraved by J.H. Brightly, this map was published from 1843 to 1850, sold either as a wall map or as a pocket map. In pocket map format the 32 insets of various American cities referred to in the map title were printed on a second sheet but, when sold as a wall-map, as here, the insets were printed around the border of the map, and then enclosed in an elaborate frame incorporating the American eagle in each corner.
