  • Map of America. London, 4th September 1804. 1200 x 1440 mm., large folding engraved wall-map, contemporary wash and outline colour, dissected and mounted on linen, folding into a modern card slipcase, light offsetting and staining.

Catalogue Note

Important wall-map of the Americas, with a fine vignette title cartouche, drawn by Edward Dayes, and etched by the brothers William and George Cook. Arrowsmith is widely regarded as the greatest cartographer of his generation.

This first state was issued from Arrowsmith's Rathbone Place address, and depicts North America on the eve of the Louisiana Purchase.
