Condition

The soundboard has an open split in the extreme bass about 20cm long. There are a few other repaired cracks including three or four in the extreme treble. Also in the soundboard are four small plugged holes about 8cm. in front of the jacks and slightly to the bass side of the centre line. The wrest planks and the wrest pins are modern replacements. Some veneer is missing from the top edge of the short side. Although the machine stop is disconnected the mechanism cover is present although it is larger than normal and has no obvious means of removal. An inscription on the soundboard reads "re-built by John Challis Ypsilanti, Michigan 1941"
