Description

  • Photograph, autograph letter and autograph receipt, all three signed, including
1) Photograph of a humorous bust of Rossini, signed and inscribed by him on the mount ("Offert a Mr Adolphe Wenger par G. Rossini, Paris ce 21 Mai 1860"), showing the composer appearing from a pie-dish, his wig somewhat askew, with a spit-roast carved on one side of the plinth and a musical stave incised to the right, bearing a single note (the note-head showing birds in a pie-dish or nest),  c.33.5 x 24cms, by Galérie Comique of Paris ("Rossini Galerie Comique No.176 par Danton Jne"), 1860, crease to mount, not affecting the image or inscription, some light staining



2) Autograph letter signed ("Rossini") being a letter of recommendation for the singer Mlle Guerrero, testifying that she is willing to undertake a variety of roles and entrusting her to the care of the receipient ("...essa è allieva del nostro Celebre Romani a Firenze, essa è disposta subire un esperimento che affronterà con coraggio...") , 1 page, 4to (21.5 x 16.5 cms), "Lacroix Frères" watermark, integral blank, Paris, 12 August 1868, slight splitting at folds



3) Autograph receipt signed ("Gioachino Rossini") acknowledging receipt of 770 lire 17 soldi, from Jacobbe Salomone and Davide Paolo Lampronti, in respect of his property held by them ("...in saldo di una rata mensile anticipata della prestazione vitalizia...ed a me da essi dovuta a titolo di vitalizio tra noi stipulato..."), 1 page, oblong 8vo (13.5 x 21.5 cms) Florence, 3 October 1852
