Catalogue Note

The Count and Countess Pillet-Will were close friends of the composer. It was in the chapel of their Paris town house that Rossini's Petite Messe solennelle was first performed on 14 March 1864. Tito Ricordi (1811-1888) was the leading force of the great publishing house of Ricordi during its period of greatest development.
