Catalogue Note
An address panel from 1784 - a miraculous year of composition in Mozart's life, which saw the creation of six of his finest piano concertos, the Quintet for Piano and Winds, K.452, the Violin Sonata in B flat, K.454, the great C-minor Piano Sonata, K.457, and numerous other masterpieces.
The letter formerly enclosed in this envelope is published in The Letters of Mozart and his Family, ed. Emily Anderson (London, 1966), as number 512. The composer writes that he will send his music to his father by mail-coach rather than with Menzel, that he is going to give a concert at Frau von Trattner's house and that Paisiello is in Vienna, en route from Russia, where his opera Il re Teodoro in Venezia is to be performed later in the year and that Sarti is expected in the capital soon.
