  • Autograph manuscript of "In Praise of Neptune", signed ("John Ireland")
comprising two versions of the song
1) for chorus and piano, notated in brown ink on four three-stave systems per page, with additions and deletions in red ink, with sol-fa syllables added above the music, lacking the conclusion, inscribed by the composer "To F.W.W....unison song [deleted]...words by Thomas Campian (1594)"), 4 pages
2) for unaccompanied four-part chorus, notated on four two-stave systems per page, the words in red ink, lacking the opening four bars, 3 pages (versos blank)



7 pages in all, folio (c.36 x 26cms), 16-stave paper (A.L. No.10), no place or date, [probably c.1911],  the lower half of the 2nd leaf and the first system of the second setting torn away, browning, staining and some foxing

This song was published by Ascherberg in 1911, in versions for unaccompanied chorus and as a "unison song" with piano.  The poem is by Thomas Campion.
