Description

  • Autograph document signed by the composer ("Carl Czerny"), and also by Thalberg, Diabelli, Fischhof and others
recommending Leonhardt Mälzel's mechanism, designed to facilitate the independence of pianists' fingers and the practice of trills, as an important and useful aid, which also serves to extend the hand ("...Nach dem Ersuchen des Herrn Leonhardt Mälzel, habe ich die von demselben nun erfundene Maschine, welche den Zweck hat, dem Clavierspieler für die Unabhängigkeit der Finger u[nd] besonders der Übung der Triller eine bedeutende u[nd] nützliche Vorübung zu verschaffen...Ebendasselbe gilt von einer Spannmaschine, welche den Fingern die nöthige Ausdehnung verschafft..."), 1 page, large 4to, annotated on verso, on headed paper, creased along folds, Vienna, 16 June 1836, together with autograph letter signed ("Carl Czerny"), to the publisher Robert Cocks, about Beethoven, replying to a request to write something for the Musical Miscellany, informing him that he has sent an article on Beethoven to the publisher's father, explaining that he considers the musical life of Vienna to be too uninteresting to merit a regular report, giving news of his present work, arranging an oratorio for piano, four hands, and announcing that he has concluded a contract with the publisher Glöggl, 2 pages, large 4to, integral autograph address-panel, postmarked trace or seal, seal-tear, some spotting and browning, creased at folds, Vienna 30 January 1852
