Catalogue Note

Autograph music by Bellini is rare. This "Tantum Ergo" is an early work, undoubtedly composed while a student at the Naples Conservatory  between 1819 and 1825.  An autograph bassoon part for this work was sold in these rooms on 6 December 1996 (lot 22), and the soprano solo part on 7 December 2001 (lot 16). There are also autograph parts for clarinet (in the Milan Conservatory) and one for flute was sold at Stargardt in March 1988.

For other examples of Bellini's early hand, please see Composizioni giovanili inedite (Rome, 1941) and S. Maguire, 'La grafia di Bellini in alcuni autogafi', in Vincenzo Bellini nel secondo centenario della nascita (Florence, 2004), 457-485.
