Catalogue Note
Autograph music by Rossini dating from this early period is uncommon at auction.
This is essentially a chamber version of the "Andantino Moderato" from Ermione's big scena no.9 in Act 2 of Ermione (Naples, 1819). The words and music are identical, though there are a few variant turns of phrase. Another version is in the album of Maria Szymanowska in Paris, containing a few minor differences, but the same date. Later Rossini used this melody with the words "Mi lagneró tacendo". Therefore, it can be seen as the link between his operas and the very many settings of that famous Metastasian text composed in his later years.
