Catalogue Note

Deborah Thomas has been producing glass works since 1988 using broken, found, glassware.

"I like the idea of using pieces of glass which have a history to them and in a sense have already existed as fragments of other peoples lives. I bring all the fragments of glass together and reassemble them creating a new form.' Deborah Thomas

`Sea Crystal (blue)' is inspired by natural forms shaped by the wind and ocean waves. The sea theme emerged in an earlier large work entitled "Northern Fleet" made in 1990.

A second pair of `Sea Crystal' candlesticks were made in 2005.   Using pale green and clear glass, they are slightly smaller than those offered here, with subtle differences in form due to the handmade nature of the work.

"Welsh born artist Deborah Thomas has a magical touch.  Transforming and recycling unwanted glass bottles into sophisticated works of functional beauty, her iconic chandeliers are highly coveted. These theatrical and dramatic candlesticks are a new direction for this talented designer."
