Catalogue Note

In this white painted papier-mache relief by Jan Schoonhoven, the tension between rest and movement is taken to an extreme. The aspect of seriality, one of the most important features of Zero, is very prominent in this relief. The proportions are classically balanced and the relationship between the rectangles and space creates a suspenseful equilibrium, without causing the image to become static.
