Description

Designed as chevron of oval cabochon emeralds surmounted by a spray of pavé-set diamond leaves and larger round diamonds, the center supporting a pear-shaped diamond pendant, the total diamond weight approximately 4.75 carats, mounted in platinum and 18 karat gold.

Condition

Although unsigned, this brooch is by Marc Koven.The original owner had a collection of jewels by Koven along with copies of invoices which are no longer available. Koven did not typically sign his work. The emeralds are a medium slightly bluish green color (deeper than indicated by the catalogue illustration) and are translucent. Diamonds are approximately G-I color and VS-SI clarity, with an occasional I clarity stone. In good condition.

Catalogue Note

Marc Koven, a self-taught jeweler and engraver, emigrated to New York City from Paris in 1940, establishing Koven Frères Jewelry Atelier on East 48th Street.  One year later, his creations were being sold at Bergdorf Goodman who used his jewelry in their New York Times advertisements.  Throughout the 1940s and 50s, Koven's creations were featured in Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and Town and Country.  In 1958, Marc Koven won three awards in the Diamonds USA International Design Competition.
