Description

Of floral spray design, two flower heads set to the center with two cushion-shaped sapphire and one flower head set with an oval sapphire weighing 6.71, 5.06 and 5.91 carats respectively, the petals, leaves and stems encrusted with old European-cut diamonds together weighing approximately 9.60 carats, mounted in platinum, signed and numbered 7918254.

Condition

Colour and Clarity: According to AGL reports, all three sapphires are natural, two of Kashmir origin and one of Ceylon, with no evidence of heat and clarity enhancement. Please refer to the reports for details. In our opinion, the two cushion-shaped sapphires are of medium to medium dark, intense and vivid velvety blue colours respectively, very clean to both naked eyes and loupe check. The oval sapphire is of slightly softer blue, eye clean, which shows fingerprints under 10x loupe. Diamonds are probably of H to J colours, mostly VS and just a few of SI clarity. Signed and numbered to the back. Condition: Signs of wear and abrasions to the mount, commensurate with age, overall in good condition.

Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.

Catalogue Note

Accompanied by AGL reports numbered CS 39540 and CS 39541, dated 19 February 2008, stating that the 6.71 and 5.06 carat sapphire are natural, of Kashmir origin; and CS 39542, dated 14 March 2008, stating that the 5.91 carat sapphire is natural, of Sri Lankan (Ceylon) origin, all three sapphires with no gemological evidence of heat enhancement.
