Condition
The painting was previously restored. An old varnish was removed (although remnants are still present on the side of the panel around the edges) and was replaced with a coat of synthetic varnish that was unevenly applied whose upper layer has now been removed. The paint layers are well consolidated with the panel and there are no signs of its being overly dry or cracked. There were small areas of paint loss scattered throughout the painting which have been filled with gesso and retouched. On each corner of the painting there are larger losses and abrasions which have also been retouched. The copper panel is thin and has damages around the edges including cracks and indentations. The corners of the panel are bent. All of these problems are correctable and the painting is overall in good condition.
