The artwork is in very good condition. The construction displays five horizontal rows of metal squares that are painted silver and black. Minor losses of paint can be seen on some of the edges of the metal squares. Some of these losses have been inpainted locally. The squares are well secured to the painted background. The three bands of black painted background with white pin stripes are in very good condition and exhibit very good legibility. A 6" long hairline scratch was noted in the central red band in addition to several minor losses that have been inpainted. The bottom yellow band displays slight soiling and small fissures in the paint layer. A faint white drip of paint (1" L x 1/4"W) was also detected on the yellow band between the second and third metal square. The white frame that encompasses the composition is in good condition showing slight wear along its edges and minor soiling that is characteristic of the artwork's age. No significant scratches or abrasions were noted on the surface. (This condition report has been provided courtesy of Wilson Conservation)
