Catalogue Note

Born in 1929 in Augustburg, Germany, renowned photographer and cinematographer Bert Van Bork moved to the United States in 1954. Over a long career, Van Bork created an extensive filmography and is well known for his art and science documentaries. His film "Eyewitness" explored the secret sketches and paintings by inmates in Nazi concentration camps and was nominated for an Oscar in 1999.

Van Bork's short film "David Alfaro Siqueiros: El Maestro" was released in 1969 by Encyclopedia Britannica Films and chronicled Siqueiros' murals for the Poliforum Siqueiros in Mexico City. Mr. Van Bork acquired this work at that time.
