of cylindrical form, carved around the sides with a monster mask with large bulging eyes, flaring nostrils and a crest at the forehead, the stone of a pale yellow tone

Compare with beads similarly carved with bulbous eyes and prominent mouths from the neolithic Liangzhu culture, such as one illustrated in Liangzhu wenhua yuqi, Beijing, 1989, pl. 174, and a pair with less incised decoration, pl. 184.
