The finely carved and gilded upper manuscript cover depicting Bhaishajyaguru seated in vajraparyankasana on a lion throne, backed with a prabhamandala and supported by nagarajas, with thrones either side, Amitabha to the left and Maitreya to the right, set in a foliate background with animals and Buddhas, within borders of petals and foliage, one end carved with a kirtimukha mask, the back painted with a repeated geometric design.

Condition

The gilding rubbed in places, with two small chips in the chest revealing the metal beneath. The right foot has a crack at the heel. Accretion on the pedestal from unction used in worship and a section broken from the bottom edge at the front. A modern pin attaches the feet to the pedestal. Two attachment loops at the back of the pedestal to hold the handle of a parasol, separately cast, now missing. The flame finial for the top of the head original. No visible signs of restoration.
