Condition

Executed on buff-coloured laid paper, laid down on card. The upper edge is uneven. There is a 5cm. repaired paper loss to the right of the upper edge. There are two flattened creases running across the upper right corner. Apart from a spot of discoloration towards the upper right corner and some minor surface dirt, this work is in fair condition. Colours: The paper tone is warmer and the pencil more strident in the original.

This work is a study for Le Cortège en Dentelles, painted in 1936, which is currently in the Niedersächsisches Landesmuseum, Hanover (see: Paul-Aloïse De Bock, Paul Delvaux. L'Homme, le peintre, psychologie d'un art, Brussels, 1967, no. 21, illustrated p. 65).
