Catalogue Note
signed 'Man Ray' and dated '57' (lower right); titled 'VERiTE' (in the lower part), oil on canvas. Painted in 1957.
Painted in Paris in 1957, the title of this work is a play on words of the old phrase "Vert d'envie" or "Green with envy" as the composition might suggest, portraying two abstract figures in communication. Inscribed Verte and transformed merely by the addition of the letter "i" into the word Vérité (truth).
