Catalogue Note

The present work is a version of a 1916 painting, La Grande Sœur, à Perros, that Denis transformed into Maternité. He placed the characters on the terrace of his Prieuré house in St Germain. The models are his children, the eldest Noël, and the infant François. The young Madeleine is equally represented in the background along with her brother, Dominique.
