Catalogue Note

Accompanied by an Extract from the Archives confirming production with pink dial in 1940 and sale on November 19th of that year.

Examples from Ref. 533 were mostly produced with tachometer scales. The present lot, however, is calibrated for pulsations. While the Extract notes that the watch left Patek Philippe with a tachometer scale, the original owner of this watch was a physician, and likely had the dial changed at the point of sale to better assist him in his day-to-day medical work. It should be noted that this watch is being offered for sale by his family.

According to our research, the present example is one of four from this model to appear at auction with a pulsations dial. Of those, it is one of only two calibrated for 30 pulsations, while the other two examples were calibrated for 15 pulsations. To the best of our knowledge, this is the fist time the present example has been offered at auction.

For a note on Ref. 533 and an example in yellow gold, see lot 198.
