Condition

The movement is running and chronograph appears to function properly, however the watch might need to be serviced and cleaned. The dial shows some spots and stains as well as discoloration to the outer edge, but overall it looks very nice. There is a scratch near XII. The case shows general wear and surface scratches and scuffs typical of a watch of this age. The outside of the back is engraved 'Recuerdo De Nuestro Primer Aniversario, Hilda, 8-1-50'. The inside of the back is stamped 4767. The numbers between have been polished out. Between the lower lugs a number has been scratched in reading, 1000054, however this is almost certainly not the original number. The strap of this wristwatch is made from an endangered species; please refer to Important Notices for further information.

Catalogue Note

Ref. 4767 was the first Oyster triple calendar chronograph model introduced by Rolex. Production lasted for only a short period of time as it was quickly replaced by Ref. 6036, popularly known as the 'Jean-Claude Killy'.

It should be further noted that this wristwatch bears the name of the famous Venezuelan retailer, Serpico y Laino, who sold some of the most famous Patek Philippe and Rolex wristwatches of the 1940s and 1950s.
