Description

  • diameter 65mm.
gilt full plate movement, signed Tregent, London, no.4097 Watchmaker to the Prince of Wales and Duke of Kent, Earnshaw spring detent escapement, screwed chaton jewels, bi-metallic compensation balance with circular weights, decoratively engraved balance cock with diamond end-stone, later spiral spring, fusee with Harrison's maintaining power • white enamel dial with hairlines and repair, signed Tregent, London, time dial with roman numerals and gold hands above large subsidiary seconds • 18k gold plain polished outer and inner cases, each hallmarked London 1800 and with maker's mark IW (John Wright?), inner case further numbered 4097

Condition

Movement running, may benefit from a clean and service. The escapement would originally have had a helical spring but this has been changed to a spiral spring. Dial has several cracks and there is a repair with soft enamel to the edge of the dial by the subsidiary seconds. Inner and outer cases with light scuffs. The catch holding movement shut inside the inner case is a little loose.
