Catalogue Note

In 1956, Rolex launched a new Submariner model, the Ref. 6536/1 featuring a chronometer-grade cal. 1030 movement and a special seconds hand painted white. The production of this model was rather short, as it was replaced by Ref. 5508 only two years later. Because of this limited run, these pieces are rather uncommon in the market and command a premium from collectors.

The present lot is especially unusual as the hands and luminescent paint all appear to be original and the gloss finish on the dial has aged wonderfully, giving the dial an attractive look.

A similar example of this model is illustrated in Skeet, M. & Urul, N., Vintage Rolex Sports Models, p. 30.
