Patek Philippe launched this model, REF. 5040, in 1992. Examples belonging to the second series of REF. 5040 have movements numbered 3120000 and up. The two series are also distinguished by the leap year indicator, which is fully sunken and 'crossed' in second series examples, and only sunken in the center on first series examples. According to our research, approximately 15 examples in platinum have come to public auction. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time the present lot has been offered at auction.
